Clara Dessources was a daughter, sister, niece, friend, and a nurse who was born and raised in Jerez, Spain. She was the daughter of Joseph Carl Dessources M.D. and Piedad Loza. Clara died from a completed suicide and left her family way too soon. Her death could have been prevented with proper mental health care. Her death led the founder of Lake Linganore Psychiatry, Marie Sheila Tate, to devote her life to caring for patients with mental illness.
The Clara Dessources Memorial Scholarship will be awarded once a year to a nurse of Haitian descent living in the United States who is enrolled in a psychiatric nurse practitioner program in the United States.
